  • I\'m no photography expert, so this won\'t be an in-depth technical review like the many helpful ones I\'ve read here on Amazon. Instead, I\'ll just mention the things I like and some things that can be improved about this camera.I bought the camera mainly for the water-resistance and shock-resistance features. I want it for biking and other outdoor activities. That\'s why I bought the yellow one, so I\'d be able to find it if I drop it. I haven\'t tested the ruggedness (I hope not to).You may be wondering about the geotagging feature of this camera. The camera does not have built-in GPS. What it does have is the ability to talk WiFi to your smart phone, which does have GPS. You must install the FujiFilm camera app on your phone (or tablet), fire it up and put it into the mode that serves up GPS info to the camera. You also have to turn on the geotagging feature on the camera. Klunky, but it works. The app also allows you to upload photos to your phone or tablet. It\'s not automatic; you have to select what you want to copy. I\'d rather just automatic sync, but I suppose that would use up too much battery. The way this WiFi stuff works is a bit odd (to my mind). The app basically commandeers your phone\'s (tablet\'s) WiFi, disassociating it from whatever WiFi network to which you were connected while it\'s connected to the camera. It also has the ability to wirelessly connect to a computer for the purpose of uploading. To use this, you fiddle with the camera to connect it to the wireless network your computer is connecting to. I have been able to get the camera to connect to my home WiFi, but I have been unable to get it to connect to the PC running Windows 8.1. Really, there\'s so much fiddling to make this work, it\'s probably just easier to use an old-fashioned USB cable. The camera has an abundance of shooting modes, including the Scene Recognition mode, which essentially picks automatically from some of the other shooting modes. It has a bunch of fun modes, such as pop color, low key and partial color. These are especially good if you routinely share your photos without using a photo editor on them first.I\'ve played with the video a bit. I\'m not much of a videographer, so I can\'t say much about it. It does have the ability to shoot stills while making a video, which seems like a nice feature.I love how fast the camera is. When you hold the shutter button down, the camera will take multiple shots. You can choose between three repeat rates and the fastest is really fast (sorry I\'m too lazy to check the specs). You can set the camera to save all such shots or only the last. All in all, I\'m happy with this camera. Certainly it is the most functional point-and-shoot camera I\'ve ever owned.
  • My wife and I purchased this camera for our honeymoon to Mexico just about 3 months ago. We went in the pool, and swam in the underground rivers and it worked great! Our only complaint at that time, was that some pictures showed spots on them because of the water on the lens but otherwise, we were impressed. We were able to figure out most of the different features quickly just by going into the different menus and looking around.Fast forward, 2 months, and we go river tubing with our friends. My wife wanted to take a silly picture of me but in the meantime, lost track of the camera and it fell to the bottom of the river. The area that we were in was about 4 feet deep and the current was moderate. Needless to say, we threw our hands up and said oh well. After we got home, my wife wrote to the local tubing companies letting them know that she had lost the camera. Two and a half weeks later, we are notified by one of the tubing companies that they believe they found our camera. We pick it up and it was indeed the same one! It was under the water for at least 2 weeks. Short of a few scratches, the camera worked like it did when we first took it out of the box. The pictures we took that day were still on the memory card, we used the camera at the beach this past weekend and it works wonderfully!Although, I would not suggest submerging your camera in a river for 2 weeks, I do have to say that I am very impressed at how well it held up. (And at how lucky my wife is for getting that camera back!)Now we will be shopping for a floatation strap or case, just in case!
  • I did a lot of research before buying this camera, as probably almost everyone else here has done as well. I am going to get straight to the point because other people here have written very long and lengthy (and appreciated) reviews. Here are my thoughts:- Outdoors pictures and videos are phenomenal. I am not comparing this to some $500 DSLR or some dedicated video camera on the market, I am giving this opinion based on how the pictures look to my eyes and how the video looks to my eyes and sounds to my ears when I watch it on my computer. For a $150 point and shoot camera, I am thoroughly impressed.- Every seal on the camera so far seems to be working just fine, I have taken this camera in the pool for hours on end of video and picture enjoyment, as well as to the beach and thrown it in the sand. After rinsing it off and letting it dry, I haven\'t found any sand or water where they shouldn\'t be.- Indoor/Low-light pictures/videos leave a bit to be desired, but who cares? This is a rugged camera meant to be used outdoors. This camera should not be purchased to be an all-in-one camera both in and outside. It should be purchased for using in the water and in the sand/dirt.- I have dropped it a few times on accident from waist level when outside by the pool, and I haven\'t noticed any degradation of quality or any issues with the camera. Conclusion: Buy this if you want a reasonably priced camera that has a high quality construction and takes excellent pictures and videos in an outdoor/wet/muddy/dirty/sandy environment.
