Nikon COOLPIX P610 Digital Camera with 60x Optical Zoom and Built-In Wi-Fi (Black)
- {I wrote this review last year but just realized I never hit submit, so it was never posted, so I\'m posting it now, because I still haven\'t been able to update.} We bougth this camera on April 26, 2016 and we have loved it and would have gladly given it five stars, but after a year and five months. everytime we leave the battery in the camera it drains the battery. We have bought new batteries and also kept the others charged, but it happens everytime we forget to take the batteries out. I called and was told to update the firmware, but although I have tried that over and over it will not update, and the batteries keep draining, which was really upsetting on a recent vacation, because it quit at a time when we were wanting to take photos of a place we were visiting, and had forgotten to take extra batteries. Ater paying this much for a camera it should have an automatic update or something, because it certainly should not be having these problems after only a year and five months! 4/14/19 It now says the firmware is updated but it still drains the battery EVERYTIME I leave it in the camera!
- My husband and I decided to upgrade our camera since we were about to be going on an Alaskan cruise and wanted to get amazing pictures of the views. We looked at several different cameras and researched them and were going back and forth between a point and shoot and a DSLR when we came across this one. We like the price and after reading the reviews decided that this might be the camera for us. We didn\'t want to have to mess with changing lenses and have to have a bunch of extra pieces so this was nice that it was just one solid camera to do the type of picture taking that we wanted. We got it a month before the cruise and practiced taking pictures and it was very easy. This zoom is amazing. We have crystal clear pictures from Alaska of the mountains and glaciers and wildlife and we were able to zoom so close that the glaciers felt like they were right in front of us. I got backup batteries but on the whole 12-day vacation I only had to charge the battery twice. We are so glad that we got this camera, it is everything we hoped for and more!
- As I was learning how to use the camera I was very pleased with the quality of the pictures and the improvement over my old camera. I had about two weeks of practice with the camera prior to a vacation in FL. The sunsets were beautiful and I got some great pictures of the super moon. All was going well and I continued to like the camera more each time used. The camera worked well until after I inserted the recharged battery. There was a great nature shot that I turned the camera on to obtain. All that could be heard was a whirling sound from inside the camera. The message said \"lens error\". Turn the camera off/on. Which I did to no avail. No more photos for the rest of the vacation. Amazon agreed to the return of the camera and full refund. Today I received another Nikon p610 (black, although I really wanted the red camera) and will give the camera another chance.
- I bought this camera to take on a safari trip to Africa. I had friends who told me that I did not need as much zoom as this camera had and that the fully extended zoom would be difficult to stabilize. I didn\'t have a lot of time to get familiar with the camera. So, I left it set on automaticsetting most of the time. Contrary to what my friends said, I did use the fully extended zoom a number of times -- you can only get so close to a leopard up a tree. My pictures were incredible. The colors and the focus were terrific. There were others on safari with mega expensive cameras who were taking down the information about my camera because they were so impressed with the pictures I managed to get. It is wonderful to make a purchase and end up thinking that it was a great buy. I would recommend this camera heartily. I also cannot wait to spend some more time with it so that I\'ll be able to use more of the features on my next safari trip. Just a great camera for the price!!
- The ability to hand hold a 1200+mm zoom lens is amazing. I am able to get close-up shots of deer in our field and birds etc. However, this is a very small sensor and its dynamic range is very limited. It quickly burns out highlights in images with lots of contrast. Dial in a 1/2 stop underexposure. And don\'t expect razor sharp images at long focal lengths. The battery lasts well. The way I use the camera, it lasts for weeks! But I got two extra and an external charger anyway. I have a Nikon d750 as my primary camera, and the p610 is in a completely different league. However, when I\'m headed out for errands, its the p610 I take to catch any random shots, because of its versatility. Having the same lens range with the d750 would cost many thousands of dollars. If you just want shots for Facebook and 4x6 prints, then you will love this camera. But don\'t try to take it on a professional photo shoot!
- I gave up my Nikon F2 when we switched to filmless cameras. Tried cheapy Canon and Sony, but was frustrated by the too-small size and lack of creative control. The P610 gives the point-and-shoot option plus aperture preferred or shutter-preferred exposure settings. It has a good grip and feel, and the anti-shake control is great since I am not as steady as I used to be. The biggest problem I had is that, although the lens is threaded to the Nikon standard 52mm filters, using those filters vignettes the view. If you find a flat filter that will work, it pops out of the plastic lens threads. Using filters or a lens shade requires a 52mm to 62mm adapter. My other gripe--I hate the name \"Cool Pix.\"
