  • This is an excellent Bridge (super zoom) camera with great features. Some of the worth notable technical features are: Firstly Lens, aperture starts at 2.9 (wide angle - 24mm focal length, 35mm equivalent). The Zoom lens widest aperture (smallest F number) is F6.5 on 1200mm 35mm equivalent lens. As a rule of thumb, for a given focal length, faster the lens (lower number of aperture) is; it is considered better and command higher price. Similarly in digital cameras, due to their smaller focal length, smaller aperture (larger F Number like 11, 16, 22) are not possible, making cameras unusable in bright light unless one adds a ND filter in front of camera to cut out bright light. However this camera Zoom lens can go up to F19, because it has built in, integrated ND filter in it, making it really versatile even for casual users and beginners to use in bright day light with no issues. The Wide angle lens range is F2.9 to F8.4. This camera is relatively newer launch that ensures latest technology advances, like newer generation processor (camera CPU), besides BSI-CMOS sensor (camera digital film). It has a full electronic view finder (EVF) that is usually found in expensive bridge cameras only. Exposure is automatically calculated based upon 256 points which is usually found in high-end cameras . However on negative side Fuji, like other major competitors does not disclose the algorithm/logic it uses for the exposure calculation, leaving advance user, not to use it and revert to two other possible settings of Average or a fixed center point (Spot) aperture calculation. In this context, it does not have AEL (aperture lock) to use in difficult and fast moving subject photography. Auto focus (AF) is very fast and same for shutter to shutter time; it is better than other cameras that I compared with. It uses AA size batteries that are easily available anywhere, for a low cost (compare it to propriety size Li-ion batteries in other cameras). Also notable is that this s9800 model is exactly same as Finepix s9900w, except lacking Wi-Fi feature. The price of s9900w is usually 35-55% more than this model. In my opinion, with usual size of JPG picture of 4MB to 7 MB, Wi-Fi will be of very limited use and time consuming for ordinary users in picture transmission to cell phone, until and unless one is willing to transmit reduced size of pictures, defeating the whole purpose of a 16MB camera.Similarly compared to current competition with other brands in this crowed bridge-camera market, cameras with comparable features and EVF, it is a great buy, it being cheaper by 30%-50%.On critical side: Some of the less commonly used digital photographic settings were removed from the Menu System. Not sure why? Maybe, not to scare a large group of user, who like to use cameras only in ‘Auto mode’ as point and shoot camera. Front end of lens does not have threads to attach any filters or lens hood. The only option available is to buy a third party adapter ring with threads and permanently glue to front end. Not sure why Fuji decided to drop this feature when it was available in earlier models with similar body format? The owner manual that is available on the accompanying disk, though is more than 125 pages but is written badly, and most of the time, is not self-explanatory and lacks in detail.Anyone who has used Fuji cameras in past, they know Fuji is well known to reproduce almost natural colors with a large gamut of colors in their pictures. Pictures taken by this camera produces full range of tones, especially notable in people and children pictures. In alignment with that softer distinct tones style for every color, sky color appears bright blue with a bit cyan or greenish-blue touch. Some people really like that, others don\'t like that. All other known brands also do not produce the exact sky colors, but some major brand go for a saturated blue-red sky color, try mimicking blue-violet color of the sky. Not sure, if it is an issue of bandwidth of digital sensors or for some other reason? Since several other major brands go for blue-red color for sky color, in case you like that deeper bluish color, the good news is that this camera has a Fuji Classic Chrome Color setting (instead of standard) that you can use, especially in outdoor pictures and then you will be no different than the general crowd.
  • I really, really wanted to love this camera! I have only ever owned Fujis and I love them all up to this point. I bought this camera on accident. I thought I was buying the 9900 because I wanted the Wi-Fi function. The seller was great and said that I could return it and get most of my money back. There is a restocking fee. I went ahead and ordered the s9900w as planned, from amazon this time and got a broken one. They are sending me a replacement with the understanding that I can return it for a refund if needed. It\'s needed. I am not an expert but consider myself pretty knowledgeable about this type camera. The selling point for me, besides the gimmicky Wi-Fi feature is the zoom. I have the HS50 and we have shot a LOT of photos! I love it!! Fantastic camera. This camera (and the fujiguys say it is the same camera, only one does the Wi-Fi) is a big disappointment. It\'s just like a Canon I bought and sold because I could NOT get it to focus at full zoom. Or even three quarters of the way there. This camera is so great otherwise but.... I decided to try this one out after the 9900 came to me malfunctioning. Sadly...I won\'t be keeping any of them. They do NOT do what I hoped. There is no sense having it if it won\'t zoom and make fantastic photos as they say it will. I will probably just end up buying another HS50 at this rate. So.....disappointed. Three stars just coz I love Fuji!
  • Would have given 5 stars, but company never responded to question asked twice, well in advance of purchase. Poor communications.
  • Who am I to review a camera, a topic that I have so little knowledge of? But I can share that -ten years after purchasing my first FUJI which made good pictures throughout the years- this is the second camera to make me happy! It takes great pictures, has a lot of gimmicks that I probably won\'t ever explore, and it seems to be the same sturdy built like the 5600 that I will actually keep active. One detail though, I find worthy to criticize: The old 5600 could be easily connected to a power supply but with this new one you first need to buy an adapter. If you want to actually use it, you need to take the batteries out and insert the adapter into the battery compartment. This is by no means user-friendly and clearly a step in the wrong direction.Summing this up, I\'d clearly recommend the camera to anybody who wants to take good pictures at a reasonable price.
  • Very pleased with camera. It is a bit larger and heavier than I had hoped, but I will get used to it. I\'m still in the process of learning how to use it to its best advantage. I am very happy that I got it. Pictures are great. Had difficulty with being able to hold camera steady enough when in significant zoom (up to 50X), but eventually bought a tripod to hold things steady.
  • Just got this camera yesterday, but have done a quit-a-bit of testing and comparing to other cameras I have and have had and as a preliminary review I love this camera. My first SLR was a Fuji 601 and my son had a 701, this was way back in 1973, and we both loved our cameras. I have a feeling this camera will be just as good of hit.The only slight negative comment is that the video sound is not as sharp as others I have had. I will write an update after more usage.I take lots of pictures of many different types and conditions but I will never use a lot of the fancy capability this camera has. Thanks FUJI!!!!!!!!!!
  • Bought the glasses as a gift for a softball player, he loved the style. He also likes that they hug and wrap around his eyes which keep the wind out of his eyes when playing. The glasses are put together well, but are also light weight and do a great job at cutting down any glare, I liked the nice warranty that comes with the glasses.
  • Fits my fairly basic needs: viewfinder, good zoom, AA batteries, good ergonomics. I wish there was a manual focus option; maybe there is, but I haven\'t figured it out. Some lighting situations seem to confuse the white balance algorithm\'s assumptions. I\'d like to remove some of the optical warping so stitched panorama photos would be improved.
