From the Manufacturer Why Sony? Because for superb digital imaging with greater creative freedom and enhanced convenience features, Sony technology keeps on raising the bar--with innovations the Super SteadyShot Optical Image Stabilization system that enables the DSC-H2 Cybershot camera to capture amazingly sharp, highly detailed long-distance photos even at full 12x optical zoom. With comfortable, user-friendly design and many other hi-tech features and performance advantages, the DSC-H2 provides quality, simplicity, and convenience that photo enthusiasts and serious amateurs count on when they choose Sony.Carl Zeiss 12x Optical Zoom Lens For sharp, high-contrast images that take advantage of the DSC-H2's CCD capabilities, a top-quality Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar lens design with 12x optical zoom lens provides finely detailed images of distant subjects--with 24x digital zoom for dramatic closeups of your subject.Super SteadyShot Optical Image Stabilization Other image stabilization systems crop in to compensate for \"camera shake\"--but with the Super SteadyShot system, optical sensors detect camera movement and send correcting signals to a stabilization lens that allows even ultra-long-distance digital photos to capture more detail with less camera shake distortion.6.0-Megapixel Super HAD CCD More megapixels allow you to edit, crop, and make big prints while preserving greater image detail. Sony's advanced Super HAD (Hole Accumulated Diode) CCD design allows more light to pass to each pixel, increasing sensitivity and reducing noise.High Sensitivity Mode A new High Sensitivity Mode (ISO 1000) lets you shoot without flash for more natural results in low-light conditions and shoot at higher shutter speed to minimize blur from unsteady hands or fast-moving subjects--and Sony's original Clear RAW NR (Noise Reduction) image processing technology helps suppress the color noise that can accompany high-sensitivity shooting.2.0-Inch LCD Screen You can easily compose shots, check results, and read camera menus even in bright sunlight--and a one-touch \"Play\" button makes viewing your photos quick and simple.Simple Camera Setup Features The DSC-H2 allows you to set Color Mode (Standard, Vivid, Natural, Sepia, or Monochrome), adjust image brightness with one-touch simplicity (including EV compensation for shooting into the sun or on cloudy days), and select the image size that's best for the print size you want and the remaining capacity of your camera's 32 MB internal memory or optional Memory Stick Duo media.Function Guide Text/Icon Display On-screen, a simple Function Guide text/icon display makes it easy to learn the camera functions that give you greater creative freedom to adjust color sensitivity, brightness, and image size for great shots in a wide range of situations. You'll also have quick reference to camera functions like flash, macro, and self-timer settings.Creative Manual Exposure Modes For more creative freedom, the DSC-H2 lets you adjust shutter speed to freeze the action or shoot with long time exposures--and control depth of field with aperture adjustment to concentrate on the foreground or capture \"deep-focus\" background.Manual Focus with MF Peaking In manual focus mode, the 2.0-inch LCD screen of the DSC-H2 highlights an outline of the shooting subject in color so it's easier to make adjustments. Why focus manually? To concentrate on an off-center subject, one face in a crowd, or an unexpected creative choice in a complex scene.Capture Images In-Camera With 32 MB Internal Memory, the DSC-H2 allows you to capture shots in-camera for later transfer to PC or Memory Stick media--so even if you forget your flash memory card, you can always get the shot.52x Smart Zoom Feature Sony's Smart Zoom feature gives you an amazing ultra-closeup crop on the central portion of interest in your photo while avoiding the image degradation of other digital zooms.MPEG Movie VX Fine Mode The DSC-H2 can capture VGA (640 x 480) audio-video clips at high frame rate (up to 30 frames per second)--and new Optical Zoom for Movie provides high-ratio zooming for sports and long-distance subjects and allows you to adjust zoom while taking action shots.Memory Stick Duo Media The DSC-H2 has a built-in slot for optional Memory Stick Duo or higher-capacity Memory Stick PRO Duo media--the ultra-compact media for shooting, storing, and sharing your photo images.

Sony Cybershot DSC-H2 6MP Digital Camera with 12x Optical Image Stabilization Zoom (OLD MODEL)

  • A co-worker had a Kodak Easyshare Z740. I was blown away by the picture quality. I decided right then that I wanted a camera that had a bigger zoom, better night shooting capability, and image stabilization. Kodak fit that bill, but after getting burned with other brands of digital cameras, I was weary of getting anything else but a Sony. I did some researching and found the H2. Now my co-worker envys MY camera.I\'ve had this camera for a couple of months now. I\'ve had several smaller Sony DSC cameras along with several other brand digital cameras which I\'m embarrassed to say included Vivitar. I\'m rough on them and I take a LOT of photos. They ride along in my saddle bags on motorcycle trips, go to work with me. Well come to think of it, wherever I\'m at, so is my camera. So far Sony has been the only camera to take the abuse I give it. I have a DSC-P52 that was completely submerged in water for a week (long sad story) and it no longer worked so I gave it up for dead. Several months later I was fiddling with it while on the phone and turned it on. Amazingly it came to life and still took photos. It resets the date and everything every time you turn it on but it takes photos just like it always has. I bought a DSC-P32 and liked it even more. After thousands of photos, it got to where it had a hard time reading even the Sony memory sticks. What I\'m getting at is that Sony makes one tough and durable product. I\'m just a tad more careful with this camera, but it still takes more abuse than the typical camera. Here are my pros and cons for the average amature photo taker like me:Pros:It\'s a Sony - Once you realize that memory sticks aren\'t the end of the world, you\'ll wonder why everyone doesn\'t own a Sony.Image stabilization - My hands shake something awful. If I ever become a surgeon, take my advice, go to another hospital. It\'s that bad. When taking photos with this camera, I no longer have to worry about bracing my arms against something to keep my hands still. Although I still have to use a tripod to take night shots with long exposure times, I\'m still able to get much better photos than my cameras without this feature. You can turn this feature off, although I don\'t see why you\'d want to.Adjustable settings - Although the average Joe only needs to use the automatic point and shoot setting to take great photos, this camera gives enough adjustable settings that even photographers who are way more advanced will be pleased. I\'ve taught myself quite a bit about shutter speeds and aperature settings just experimenting with this camera. I like the way you get a brief description of what each main setting does every time you turn the dial. The on-screen histogram feature comes in handy at times too.Photo Quality - I\'m sure there\'s better out there somewhere, but so far I\'ve not seen better photo quality on a digital camera that wasn\'t a SLR.12X Optical zoom - Most of the digital cameras I had before only had 3X optical zoom. I would always just zoom in by cropping during the editing phase. I never knew what I was missing. I will know from now on. I\'ll never go back to less than 12 again.Video mode - I\'ve not used the video mode much on this camera because I use my Sony camcorder for that. I did, however, use the video mode a great deal on my other Sony digital cameras and I loved them. From what I can tell, this camera\'s video capabilities are even better.Battery life - I use AA rechargables and already have taken more than two hundred pics. So far I\'ve changed the batteries one time.Focus - There are 4 focus modes: manual, multi point AF, center AF, and the surprisingly handy flexible spot focus.Cons (There is only one and the reason I give the camera 4 stars instead of 5)Buttons - Although I realize that with more features it\'s harder to fit so many buttons on a camera, Sony has made the buttons on this camera more streamlined and flush than on my older DSC cameras. It\'s like the buttons were designed for kid sized fingers. I\'m having a hard time with hitting buttons that I don\'t want to and not being able to hit the ones I do.I can\'t imagine anyone not being satisfied with this camera unless you are just looking for a pocket sized camera.UPDATE: I recently took some video indoors with the H2. After putting it on Youtube, people thought I had used a camcorder. It looked great! I also shot some outdoor footage. It was much better video than my P-52 took but still not quite camcorder quality. With a 2GB memory card, I think I shot about 25 minutes worth of video, several full size photos and still had room to spare.Since I can\'t put the URL to the video here, if you want to see what a great job this camera does with video, my name on youtube is the same as it is here or just look up \"Ride to Big South Fork\". This camera did so well I just may use it on all of my videos!6-22-2013 UPDATE: Well I\'ve owned two other cameras since I bought this Sony, one of those is a Nikon D-80 DSLR. I keep having trouble with the other two cameras (auto-focus lenses stop working) so you know what? I just quit using them and went back to this old Sony and it still takes awesome pictures. I think I\'ll just keep using it until it dies, if it ever does. I LOVE this thing!
  • I love the quality of photos that this thing lets you snap out. Range of focus can get a little annoying if you\'re a chronic macro mode user (as I am), but it\'s still beautiful.I\'d give it 5 stars except for one little detail: that darn shutter button. I went into this purchase knowing full well that at some point, that little button would come off. 8000 photos in... yep there it went, right in my hand. You can still take photos by jury rigging it with a paperclip, but it\'s a little hair-raising to worry about potentially warping the auto-focus (Which is what I hear is going to be the next part to die), but it\'s doable. The replacement part will cost $26 and if you want it priority shipped, for some reason it\'s another $20. >.< The box for the button is, no joke, a foot tall (the button\'s half the size of a dime, mind you. Did it NEED that much protection??).So yeah, wonderful camera. Beautiful image quality, giving many lower-end DSLRs a run for their money. Bad button design.
  • [...]This camera lives up to all of the expectations set by these reviews (as well as others) and the reviews on Amazon. I could do a write up, but the reviews posted on the sites above go into far greater detail than I could ever do and show comparison photo\'s to boot. What I can do is give you my reaction to this camera now that I have it in my hands...PROS:1 - Super easy to use, out of the box experience. Pop in some AA batteries and you\'ll be shooting photos in just a few seconds.2 - Speaking of batteries they are the AA batteries you already have in your house. I have kids so I am already using rechargeable batteries.3 - Image quality is great!4 - Supplied software is fantastic for storing photos - I love it already.5 - Fits very nicely in your hands.6 - Very intuitive controls. You can jump from full auto to full manual with ease.7 - Very quick shutter lag.8 - Nice burst mode.9 - Functional image stabilization10 - 12x optical zoom is superb; 24x digital zoom actually works with no image degradation.CONS:1 - Low light focusing is too soft. You will need to manually adjust for this in very low light situations (like taking a photo of cereal boxes inside of a kitchen closet with no light on).2 - Higher ISO settings are too noisy (anything above 200). The built in flash will correct for this in many situations, but not all of them. They could have used better algorithms.3 - LCD could have been larger, but it is not worth paying extra for (for example the H5).OTHER:1 - There have been some reviews here that have lamented the \"special\" USB connection on the cable. To be accurate the cable supplied by Sony has a standard USB interface for the PC end and a standard micro-USB for the camera end. The micro-USB interface is the exact same one used by my Blackberry phone, my SanDisk MP3 player and my Cannon PowerShot camera. There is nothing special about it.2 - Some have commented about this camera is not able to write to non-Sony memory sticks. While this was true for the first batch of these cameras that were released, Sony has since provided free downloads to correct for this. The newer cameras come with this new software already installed. I have a non-Sony meory stick in my camera and it works just fine.[...]
