Pentax K10D 10.2MP Digital SLR Camera with Shake Reduction and 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 Lens
- Pros:when placed the order i did ask the seller to let me know how many shutter counts were there in this camera, to which they replied they had no idea since the item was in the warehouse and they didn\'t have access to it right away ... an odd answer kind of, but for me, it didn\'t matter if the camera\'s body didn\'t look like-new as long as the shutter count was low ...long story short, i just \'took the risk\' and placed my order hoping (as well as praying!) the camera will be ok and in good working order ... it arrived (at least a few days earlier than promised btw!) and hey, man: it looks like it\'s never been used and just out of the original box! no sings of use on the outside at all ...yes, a super-tiny white dot on the rear thumb rest protrusion, which the seller had already stated in the ad ... but it\'s so insignificant (as well as easily repairable) it doesn\'t matter even a bit to me! plus a relatively larger than tiny spec of dust on the viewfinder (the seller had stated that one too) which i removed by blowing it off ... and another two very tiny ones too, which i don\'t care about at all ... (maybe i\'ll clean them later, maybe not ... i\'m too busy doing more important things using this camera to really bother with that!) :-)and guess what: the shutter count was only 1090+ according to PhotoMe or 1442 according to an online resource! that is why this beautiful gem is better than \"used, like new\" as the seller said!so, now i have a \'\'NEW\'\' Pentax K10D camera so to speak! everything works as expected and i truly love it as i had been thinking about getting one of these for years now (because of its CCD sensor) even though i already do own another three great higher model Pentax DSLR cameras already, but they have CMOS sensors, which are ok but i wanted at least 1 CCD one with lower resolution (less noise) too ...see photos please ... the camera strap was not included in the sale and i added it myself ... so was the original but used Pentax BG2 battery grip, which i had ordered already from another seller ... (this one is in quite good shape and totally like-new too!)Cons:the only little complaint i have of the seller is that when the camera arrived (in a very well packaged box) there was no body cap on it! these may be a little hard to find but they can be devised cheaply using other means so as to protect a camera\'s truly sensitive and overly exposed mirror chamber and shutter mechanism ... hence the 4**** rating ...Final:this set is amazing! i feel like i have just bought a totally new camera + battery grip (both discontinued more than a decade ago if i recall it right?!) at a fraction of the price and i love it! ♥
- Sixteen years later and the K10D is still making fans. I\'ve owned three in my lifetime, and my current K10D is a pristine sample that will stay in my personal library beyond my own passing.Once a leading edge DSLR for serious enthusiasts, today the K10D ironically, is largely viewed as more of a budget priced classic retro camera for CCD fans on the used market. But let us not forget that the K10D nearly stole the show at Photokina 2006, where in just about every metric the K10D beat its rivals, especially so on value for the dollar. As CCD has been replaced mostly by CMOS sensors, this puts those cameras with a CCD sensor in a category of lower supply. The quiet demand for \"something different\", like CCD output can provide, has been increasing as the camera market has long since reached a point of diminishing returns. Therefore the K10D as I see it, will eventually start going up in price as more and more enthusiast photographers increase the demand on the used market. This demand, as I see it, is a result of more photographers returning to simpler designs to distinguish themselves and their work, as well as get back to the roots and fundamentals of photography. With that said, the K10D remains a lovely camera to use, a true pleasure to hold and operate. It\'s ergonomics and comfortable body are arguably some of the best that Pentax has ever made. Combine that experience with a rock solid build, top notch weather sealing, specifications that are still competent today, with beautiful CCD image quality... and the K10D not only ends up as a uniquely attractive camera on the used market, but potentially as a contender for legendary status amongst other cameras in Pentax\'s K-Mount.As I continually remind others of, experience is much different than specifications alone.I love shooting with this camera, it\'s so comfortable to hold in either landscape and/or portrait orientation (unlike many cameras) without the aid of a battery grip. It\'s control layout is sublime, very much \"Pentax\", and I\'ve never had a complaint. It\'s autofocus is quick and decisive, even in low light it continues to hunt for focus while others will give up. Its viewfinder is large and bright enough that with the aid of a magnifier, will rival full frame cameras in terms of magnification.Couple that with awesome battery life, worry free weather sealing, and its a camera that just gets right out of your way and leaves just you and the composition of your subjects. It\'s raw files are lovely, and as long as you do your job of exposing correctly, the full ISO range has excellent image quality. The colors and the digital texture of the files speak for themselves. If you ask me, it\'s already legendary. Within it\'s niche, it\'s a 5 star camera in my book- as long as you don\'t ask it to do things it was never designed to do in the first place.
