GW-4 Wide Conversion Lens for GR III Digital Compact Camera
- I considered this as if I was buying a new lens for my dslr. From that perspective it\'s worth pointing out that image quality is on par with the regular lens, which is sharp and with nice bokeh. Autofocus and flare resistance seem similar, but I didn\'t stress test, just haven\'t noticed any issue. I already had the (overpriced) ga-1 adapter because I was using ND and polarizer filters with the GR III (as well as uv for protection) so from that starting point this lens seemed affordable: super sharp f2.8 21mm equivalent, not bad.The convertor\'s body is made of metal and feels very solid, there are no moving parts. The rubber hood fits well but I don\'t use it. The plastic bayonet that is used to connect the ga-1 adapter makes a slight noise because it\'s not fully tight, but it doesn\'t matter in practice. It does transform the GR into a different camera because of how it handles. It\'s significant weight and bulk only when compared to the tiny camera, otherwise the overall package is still very reasonable in use. I may try a neck strap just to compare, so far I\'ve only used the GR with a wrist strap. I added a custom profile on the mode dial for this lens (for example snap focus should be closer, you\'ll need to get closer).
- I was super excited to buy this 21mm lens for my griii. The image quality is outstanding, super sharp! It is built with a quality piece of glass. The lens hood could be better, it’s just a piece of flexible rubber shaped as a lens hood. I guess I can just buy another lens hood. I don’t like the one it came with but all I care about is the picture and built quality of the lens. It does make the griii front heavy, so a camera grip or a hotshoe thumb grip is highly recommended. The focus distance is extremely close, especially in macro mode. I can literally touch the item with the lens and it focuses well at that distance. Super.Super.Super! Get it!
- This thing is HUGE and HEAVY. I\'ve used conversion lenses with other brands, but this one takes the cake. Image quality is excellent, perspective is right on the mark. 21mm angle is just right for those near / far compositions and this lens won\'t disappoint. 72mm front can still take filters. 49mm opening on the adapter gives a way to add ND filters to the prime lens.
- Does not degrade image quality. Heavy but useful in macro close focus. You need a 72mm skylight filter to protect the glass on the GW-4 particularly in macro. Click macro on, get TOO CLOSE. Adapter is a 49mm filter. Will cover lens, provided protection, good in a dirty environment. Cost is painfully, 300.00 for the pair. Then 30-40 bucks for decent 2 filters. However it is stunning to have IS provide lower light no tripod macro with GR 111. Be aware it\'s only for GR 111. GR 11 model will not work on the GR 111.
- Definitely worth owning but not at $219 plus tax. Fortunately, I bought one from Amazon that was supposedly \"damaged\" for $162 that had no damage at all. It does kill the portability of the Ricoh GRIII though.
- All in all? Good. Images are sharp. My two critiques would be the plastic adaptor and rubber lens hood. Would love to see higher quality accessories for the price.
- Awesome corner to corner sharpness, high quality build as well. Pretty hefty though, makes the camera front heavy, but that\'s inevitable considering how light the camera is. Very happy with my purchase. 21mm (ff equiv) is awesome.
