- I like the camera, I really should take a photography class to use it properly, but even as a beginner I can figure out enough to take great pictures. I have a strange comment on the durability I suppose, you see, I was on a dock on a river feeding some ducks and taking their pictures a year or two ago. Used the 300mm lens to keep the now empty bread bag I had from blowing away. Heard an odd thudding noise and then a splash and all of the ducks but one (the one who saw what happened I later realized) darted away from me. I was confused but slowly turned back to the ducks for a moment or two before I whipped around and saw the lens was gone. Cue the mad dash up the hill to retrieve my scuba mask and snorkel from the cabin I was staying in, followed by wading, fully clothed, into what turned out to be roughly 4-5 feet of water at the end of the dock. There it was, my 300mm lens sitting on a rock on the bottom.I brought it up, rinsed it, took the caps off, found some rice and over the course of a week or two dried it out, leaving it in the bag of rice in the sun for short spans of time to gently heat up. Plus later I took off the front lens component (which is apparently two pieces of glass sandwiched) and tried to dry it out without spots using rubbing alcohol (didn\'t work, wouldn\'t penetrate between the two pieces of glass like water did) and later used more water (decided to move it frequently while drying it out to avoid heavy spots). I\'ll add that I thought the lens might be a goner so really wasn\'t worried about doing anything worse to it.Long story short, I use this thing to this day. There\'s a faint water-spot when looking at the front of the lens but it doesn\'t show up on the pictures at all. It was a little glitchy with connecting with the housing at times early on after the incident and recovery, but recently I\'ve been using it a lot again and it hasn\'t happened once. The autofocus works perfectly still as does the manual. So I gotta say the lens has to be good if it put up with a dunking and then disassembly and reassembly by an amateur. I\'m looking into getting more lenses to try new things with because of how these lenses and the housing performed.
- I used this camera during my high school classes because it was what the school had. So, when I found I had a photography class in college, I came right back to this camera because of its easy-to-use hardware. I have never had issues with photos corrupting or difficulty working with the camera.
- this was a Christmas present for my girlfriend who was wanting to get into amateur photography and it turned out to be a fantastic starter package that has room to grow. Takes great pics and the two lenses seem to cover a lot bases (I know nothing about photography beyond my hundred dollar ebay camera lol) She gets lost of use out of it and takes great pics of the nesting eagles out in the parks by us on the SW edge of Lake Erie. The telephoto lens takes amazing action shots with tons of what we jokingly call \"money shots\" of the eagles landing in the nests, flying and doing other eagle stuff lol. If you are looking for a really nice comprehensive entry level camera (i think entry level may not be the right term because it is much more then that) this is a good place to start. One thing i did do on the suggestion of a pro photog friend of mine was purchase this kit instead of the next package that had a bunch more stuff in it. Turned out most of it was clutter and fluff to market a kit with more pieces and in reality it was better to buy the body with the lenses i wanted and tailor in the tripods, filters, accessories that fit how she uses it. Turned out a mono pod works better for her to. Yeah we like it and are definitely happy with the camera and how it works.
- This is the lowest cost DSLR camera Canon makes, their entry level DSLR. It was released in 2014. It has an optical viewfinder for pictures but not video. The 3\" LCD panel on the back, affixed to the camera is used for video and can be used for pictures. The optical viewfinder is blocked when the LCD panel is used because the mirror is lifted. This kit, from Canon, comes with both a18-55 mm and a 75-300 mm auto focus Canon lens plus a case. These lenses provide the equivalent range of 29 mm to 480 mm with the APS-C image sensor providing a 0.6 wide angle to 9.6 telephoto range. The 18x55 lens has image stability (IS) built in. The camera can be used like a point and shoot camera or used in a totally manual/professional mode with all settings controlled by the user. The 18 Mpixel APS image sensor provides very high quality pictures and full 1080 video. I am very pleased with the camera kit. I have only had this camera for two months but used a Canon AE1 film SLR for many years.
- This is a great camera for someone wanting to control their camera budget or needing a somewhat simpler DSR. I am using it as a backup to my fuller featured T2i Canon Rebel. This camera has most of the frequently used features of the more complete T2i.The included 75-300mm lens is one of Canons budget lens. It is usable, but most of my shots are with the 18-55mm. The larger lens is targeted at the most casual use which is fine. Obviously for this price it is not going to be one of the higher line lens which would cost as much as this entire package. The 18-55m lens is the standard Rebel lens that has been known for a decade to produce good shots. It is not the faster ultrasonic lens so use a bit of patience.A word of advice that users miss: most of the DSR\'s really need a half-press of the button to first adjust the focus and exposure. After a second of the half-press, continue with the shot.
